THEY DID THE

MASH

OCTOBER 14-31, 2026

Jason and Will were introduced at the Summer 2026 JStyle Fashion Issue release party. Will told Jason about an idea he had for an immersive exhibit featuring his monster/horror movie artwork. Jason said, “I have a space for this… if you want it.”

YES.

About the Experience:

T’was a dark and stormy night… They say that’s the worst way to start a horror story. Maybe it is. As a way to begin explaining the inspiration behind my art experience, Monster Music Mash, maybe it is not so bad. In our lives, we have sunny days, cloudy days, moonlit nights and those of the dark and stormy variety.

The idea came to me during one of the most tempestuous, murky periods in my life. Like a lightning bolt on one of the aforementioned evenings, the entire craggy landscape was suddenly illuminated and I knew right then that I must create my own monsters! But where to start? Part of the answer lay in the fertile mind of Jason Toth. He had the perfect environment, his sound room located within his gallery at 78th street studios. Jason also possesses a vision of what can be, not what is, a rare talent indeed. That was the seed and it was up to me to work with him and nourish the budding idea into a real thing.

I cannot remember a time when Frankenstein’s monster and Dracula didn’t loom large in my mind's eye. And then there was another love of mine, MUSIC! If I was able to combine the exquisite imagery, spine tingling fear and allure of the old Universal Movie Monsters with the music that was inspired by those very movies, I might just be on to something worth creating and sharing! One last but important piece of the puzzle remained: The question of style. What would be the proper format? When you think of it though, is there any better way to encompass these ideas than with the movie poster? I’m not talking about the newfangled computer generated stuff! The art of the hand drawn movie poster has been all but lost. (More on that shortly.) Suffice it to say, that style, the hand illustrated and LETTERED movie poster was the only vehicle suitable to drive (pun absolutely intended) this idea home. And you get what you have here: recreations of the old movie posters spiced with the songs that were directly or indirectly inspired by the films themselves seen through my own Gen X lens. To frame them all in an old style movie theater is just the sprinkles on the sundae.

I hope you enjoy the work I have set forth here and are able, in some way, to absorb the atmosphere of a vintage movie theater recreated here for your entertainment, amazement and possibly horror. Are you ready? Well, I’ve warned you!
